NOT built in a DAY

Group digital art exhibition curated by Serena Tabacchi, co-founder and director of MoCDA — Museum of Contemporary Digital Art. Maison Bosi, Via Margutta, Rome — January 25 – February 25, 2023.

The exhibition

NOT built in a DAY is Rome's first digital art exhibition, curated by Serena Tabacchi in collaboration with Francesco Boni and Giacomo Nicolella, hosted at Maison Bosi — the gallery of Fabrizio Bosi, heir to three generations of gallery owners — at Via Margutta 28/29. The opening night on January 25, 2023 drew a strong crowd at 6:30 PM, with singer Highsnob, collectors, artists, and athletes among the guests. Public demand was strong enough that the gallery extended the closing date from February 16 to February 25, 2023.

Developed in partnership with Cinello and ArtSquare.io, the exhibition brings together 14 Italian and international artists showing previously unseen, native digital works collectible in DAW® (Digital Artwork) format — a globally patented technology that certifies the uniqueness of a digital file. The works are phygital: created digitally, then physically displayed on screens through encryption-protected hardware, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Also on view is Keith Haring's "Untitled 1988," shown as an example of a fractional artwork through ArtSquare.io.

Artists were asked to reflect on Rome and its relationship with the evolution of the digital world. Each piece draws on its creator's own practice — spanning pop art, design, painting, and new media — reimagined in a dreamlike, purely digital form. David Golzio's contribution, "6+1 Ricordi", presents seven fragments of memory: six sharp and firmly rooted, the seventh already fading — a work of Hybrid Metaphotography set on the border between preservation and forgetting. Throughout the exhibition, workshops and talks brought together artists, the curator, and industry experts to discuss digital collecting.

"NOT built in a DAY is an exhibition that brings together digital artists working mainly at the national and international level. Each of them reflected on the theme of the Eternal City, creating a site-specific piece that speaks, both philosophically and aesthetically, to the pull that this eternal, centuries-old city still holds over the evolution of the digital today." Serena Tabacchi, curator

Being featured in an exhibition curated by Serena Tabacchi — founder of MoCDA and one of the most authoritative voices in international digital art — marks a significant milestone in David Golzio's artistic career.

"When only memories remain…"

Seven fragments of memory. Six that endure — sharp, rooted, impossible to erase. The seventh is the one that time has already begun to erase: blurred at the edges, uncertain at the center, present only as a trace of its own absence.

The work explores the selectivity of memory as an involuntary act — a mind that keeps without asking permission, and loses without warning. Hybrid Metaphotography becomes the ideal language for it: photography as a record of the real, artificial intelligence as the force that transforms, layers, and forgets.

Technique: Hybrid Metaphotography · Year: 2022 · Format: Phygital.
