The first time I thought, "this is the job I want to do," it wasn't while looking at a beautiful photo. It was looking at a bad one. Actually, several: growing up, my dad hired a photographer for every christening and confirmation in the family, and the results were always flat, people lined up, forced smiles, ID-photo lighting. With all due respect to the photographers involved, I always figured it could be done better.
So I started teaching myself. I studied the work of photographers I admired, tried to figure out how they built a frame, learned Photoshop by reading and making plenty of mistakes. My early attempts were rough, I'll admit that freely: overexposed shots, stiff poses, retouching you could spot a mile away. But that's exactly where I started learning what I didn't want to do, and over time, shot after shot, what I actually did.
Today I mostly work with models building a portfolio, professionals who want a portrait with more character, and generally anyone who wants to see themselves in a way that doesn't usually happen. Everything gets delivered through a private cloud link, no more hand-burned CDs like the old days, and I work across Bollate, Milan, and Lombardy, in studio or on location, depending on what needs to be told.

David Golzio — artistic photographer in Bollate & Milan
I live and work in Bollate, just outside Milan. I've been a photographer since 2016, and in recent years I've worked more and more with models building or refreshing their portfolios, as well as with anyone looking for a portrait that's different from the usual. Every session starts with one simple question: what makes an image memorable, not just technically correct. Everything else, light, pose, location, gets built from there.

What makes an artistic portrait different
Milan has no shortage of photographers who call themselves "artistic." The difference shows up in the details: how much time you spend on a single shot, how the light is handled, what happens afterward, in post-production. Here's what I bring to every session.
No catalog poses
I won't run you through a line of copy-paste shots. Every session starts with one simple question, what do you want to say about yourself, and from there we build poses, light, and framing that look like you, not a model pulled from Pinterest.
I know how to handle camera shyness
You don't need to be a professional model. Most people show up a little stiff, and that's completely normal: I always start with simple shots to build comfort, and the session loosens up on its own, usually within the first ten to fifteen minutes.
I direct you shot by shot, not from a distance
During the session I'm not just pressing the shutter: I'll adjust the tilt of your head, where you're looking, your weight distribution. They're small cues that seem minor and make all the difference between an awkward photo and one you actually like.
Handcrafted post-production, not a filter
Every selected shot is edited individually, never run through a batch preset. Light, color, and detail are balanced shot by shot; with Premium, retouching goes further, with dedicated work on imperfections in the selected images.

Within 15 business days at most, you'll get a private cloud link with all the selected, edited images, ready to download in high resolution and share.

For an artistic portrait, the location matters as much as the light or the pose: it shifts the tone of the images, from editorial to dreamlike, from urban to natural. Here's where I most often bring the people I photograph, and for what kind of result.
Parco delle Groane
Sparse woods, heathland, open fields just outside Bollate: this is the light I use most often for autumn-style series, warm and a little wistful in the late afternoon.

Woods, open lawns, a small lake: the backdrop changes every hundred feet without ever feeling like the same spot twice. Useful if you want more than one mood in a single session.

Water adds another layer to the composition: reflections, transparency, a different kind of quiet. Some of the shots I'm proudest of came out of exactly this, and you don't always need to wade in.

How long does an artistic photo session last?
Anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the package. For the Custom Project, the length adapts to what's actually needed to bring the idea to life, so it can run longer than the 3-hour base.
Do I need modeling experience for this service?
No, quite the opposite: most of the people I photograph have never done a session like this before. Part of my job is guiding you step by step, from pose to expression, no prior experience needed.
Are makeup, hair, and wardrobe included?
No, those are on you. If you'd like help choosing an outfit, or need a contact for makeup and hair styling, I'm happy to recommend a few people I've worked well with before.
Can we choose the location ourselves?
Yes, that's actually the most common setup: nearly every package includes a location of your choice. If you'd rather leave it to me, I also have a list of spots across Milan and Lombardy depending on the look you're going for.
When will I receive my photos?
The private cloud link with all the selected, edited images arrives within 15 business days of the session at most.
How do I choose between Economy, Standard, and Premium?
It mostly depends on how much you want to experiment and how you'll use the images. Economy works well for a quick refresh of your profile photos or social media; Standard is the most balanced choice for a real photography portfolio; Premium makes sense if you're also thinking about large-format prints or a more ambitious project. Do you shoot outside Milan too?
Yes, I work throughout the province of Milan and across Lombardy. For sessions outside the region, only the travel fee is added, clearly communicated in the quote before anything is confirmed.
